Customer: Jindal SAW Ltd.
Location: New Delhi, India
Order Date: September 2026
Equipment: Custom Steel Pipe Hydro Testing Machine
Application: Hydrostatic testing of steel pipes
Jindal SAW Ltd. in India has placed an order with Wuxi Marley Machinery Technology Co., Ltd. for a customized pipe hydro testing machine designed around its specific steel pipe testing requirements.
Unlike a standard equipment purchase, this project developed through several stages of technical communication. The customer first found our equipment online, then worked with our technical team to discuss the application in detail. After further technical discussions, the customer traveled from India to our factory in China for an on-site inspection.
After approximately three months of technical communication and equipment configuration, the final solution was confirmed and the order was placed with Marley Machinery.
Project Requirements
The machine will be used for steel pipes with a diameter range of 101–219 mm and pipe lengths from 3 to 12 meters.
| Project Item | Customer Requirement |
|---|---|
| Customer | Jindal SAW Ltd. |
| Pipe Diameter | 101–219 mm |
| Pipe Length | 3–12 m |
| Maximum Test Pressure | ≤3,000 psi |
| Sealing System | One-to-one conventional end heads and sealing components |
| Operation | Fully automatic |
| Test Medium | Water |
| Application | Steel pipe hydrostatic testing |
These parameters formed the basis of the equipment configuration discussed during the project.
The Project Started With an Online Inquiry
The first contact between Jindal SAW and Marley Machinery came through our website.
At this stage, the customer was not simply looking for a machine price. The discussion focused on whether the equipment could be configured around the required pipe range, pressure and production process.
Our technical team reviewed the main working conditions, including pipe diameter, pipe length, testing pressure, sealing arrangement and automation requirements.
This information is important because a pipe hydro testing machine is not determined by pump pressure alone. The pipe handling system, testing heads, sealing components, water filling process and automatic control sequence all need to match the actual application.
Three Months of Technical Communication
The project then entered a technical discussion stage that lasted approximately three months.
During this period, the equipment configuration was reviewed according to the customer's requirements. For a pipe range of 101–219 mm, the testing system needs to accommodate different pipe dimensions while maintaining reliable positioning and end sealing.
The customer also required a fully automatic operating mode. This means the machine needs to coordinate the main testing operations rather than treating pressure testing as an isolated hydraulic process.
For this reason, our discussions covered the complete working concept of the machine, including pipe positioning, end sealing, water filling, pressurization, pressure holding, pressure release and unloading.
The Customer Visited Our Factory in China
After the technical solution had progressed, the Jindal SAW team visited our factory in China.
An on-site factory inspection gave the customer an opportunity to see the manufacturing environment and discuss the proposed equipment directly with our technical engineers.
For customized machinery, this step can be important because the final equipment is developed around a specific production requirement rather than taken directly from a standard catalogue.
The factory visit also allowed the technical discussion to move from drawings and specifications to the actual machine structure, manufacturing process and equipment configuration.
Designed Around a 3,000 psi Testing Requirement
The maximum test pressure specified for this project is 3,000 psi, or approximately 20.7 MPa.
When designing a hydro testing machine for this pressure range, the pressure system and sealing system have to be considered together.
The sealing arrangement selected for this project is a one-to-one conventional end-head and sealing configuration. The end sealing components provide the interface between the pipe and the testing system during pressurization and pressure holding.
For multi-size pipe testing, sealing reliability and repeatable positioning become especially important because the working diameter changes within the specified range.
The equipment configuration therefore considers the relationship between pipe dimensions, end sealing and pressure testing rather than treating each requirement separately.
Fully Automatic Operation for Production Testing
Jindal SAW's machine will use a fully automatic operating mode.
In a production environment, automation needs to cover more than the pressure-holding stage. A typical automatic sequence can include:
Pipe Positioning → End Sealing → Water Filling → Air Release → Pressurization → Pressure Holding → Pressure Release → Unloading
The actual sequence and control parameters are determined during machine configuration.
For us, automation is closely related to the mechanical design of the machine. Pipe movement, centering, sealing and hydraulic pressure control must work together so that the testing cycle can be repeated consistently.
Why This Machine Is Customized
The Jindal SAW project is a good example of why pipe testing equipment should be configured from the customer's production requirements.
The machine must cover:
101–219 mm pipe diameter
3–12 m pipe length
Up to 3,000 psi testing pressure
One-to-one conventional end sealing
Fully automatic operation
These requirements determine the design of the testing heads, sealing components, pipe positioning arrangements and control sequence.
Rather than supplying the same machine configuration to every customer, we use the actual production range as the starting point for equipment design.
From Technical Discussion to Order Confirmation
The complete project process took approximately three months, from the initial technical communication to final confirmation.
The customer first found Marley Machinery online, communicated its requirements with our technical team, visited our factory in China, reviewed the proposed solution, and then confirmed the final customized equipment configuration.
The result is a custom steel pipe hydro testing machine developed specifically around Jindal SAW's pipe size range, testing pressure and automatic production requirements.
We appreciate the trust of Jindal SAW Ltd. and look forward to completing the manufacturing and delivery of the equipment.
At Marley Machinery, we provide customized hydro testing machines for pipe, with machine configurations developed according to pipe diameter, pipe length, test pressure, sealing requirements, automation level and production conditions.
For a customized pipe hydro testing project, send us your pipe specifications and testing requirements. Our technical team can evaluate the application and discuss a suitable equipment configuration.
